Jury selection has been suspended at least until Monday in the death penalty case against accused Silver Comet Trail murderer Michael Ledford. Paulding County Judge James Osborne on Wednesday called off the questioning of prospective jurors to allow for evaluations of Ledford's mental competency after the accused killer unexpectedly announced he wanted the judge, not a jury, to decide his case. Ledford is accused of murder, aggravated sodomy and several other felonies in the death of Jennifer Ewing on July 25, 2006. Ewing, a 54-year-old woman from Sandy Springs, was almost finished with her regular 50-mile ride along the popular trail when Ledford allegedly ambushed her. She was pulled into some woods, sexually assaulted and beaten to death, according to investigators.
